The university chapel was filled with a spirit of gratitude and anticipation this Wednesday as the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplagat, addressed the community after being away on official duty. His message resonated deeply, blending a warm welcome with significant announcements that underscored the university's commitment to both spiritual and academic growth.
The congregation was honored by the presence of several distinguished guests. The VC recognized Mr. Emmanuel Kata Kimeu, the Secretary for ICT, Security, and Audit Authority Control at the State Department of ICT, who represented Cabinet Secretary Eng. John Tanui. A proud alumnus of Moi High School – Kabarak, Mr. Kimeu’s presence served as a powerful reminder of the deep roots and strong networks associated with the institution. The VC also acknowledged Mr. Moloise, another alumnus now serving in the State Department of ICT, further underscoring the success of the institution’s graduates.
Prof. Kiplagat began by welcoming everyone back, with a special emphasis on the first-year students who have recently joined the Kabarak family. He extended his appreciation to the chaplaincy department, acknowledging the leadership of the Acting University Provost, Rev. Justus Mutuku. He also commended the sermon delivered by Rev. Laban Kitonyi, which encouraged students to “do their best in Biblical teaching” and remain committed to their faith.
In his address, the VC highlighted the successful completion of the Central Rift Innovation Week, a testament to the university’s dedication to innovation and research. He also shared exciting news from a recent trip to South Africa, where he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Venda. This partnership will see Kabarak University host a conference for the African Musicology Institute next year.
Prof. Kiplagat encouraged academic staff and lecturers to take advantage of this new collaboration by publishing articles in refereed journals in partnership with South African institutions, noting both the professional and financial benefits of such ventures. He also welcomed Prof. Ogweno Joshua from Egerton University, who has joined Kabarak University staff for 12 months on sabbatical.
The VC concluded his address by commending members of management, deans, and all staff for their consistent attendance at the Wednesday chapel services, a tradition he emphasized as crucial to the university’s culture. He closed with a prayer, leaving the congregation with a sense of renewed purpose and a shared vision for the future.
